Mumbai gets new way to commute. It has got wings although on dedicated corridors over rail tracks. The metro city gets first time metro services. The city which is with many developments and landmarks. It has beautiful beaches as Juhu, Chowpatty, Aksa, Madh Island. It has Gorai Beach, Versova and Uttan Beach that makes it most popular hotspot. There is Gateway of India, Marine Drive, Taj Mahal Hotel and many other places to visit for tourists. It gets many popular educational institutes like IIT Mumbai, St. Xavier’s College. CST is an important railhead. The Mumbai-Worli sea link is an important bridge and an architectural marvel. With so many developments to visit and a tourist hotspot as people from all over world and India visit here. That makes it a necessity to have world class metro network for this city.

Mumbai metro has total of 10 lines with few of them operational, some under construction and others proposed for construction.  Its development is by MMRDA, which has come up with total area of 146.5 km, in 2004 with multiple lines and according to initiative of master plan.

Mumbai metro has operational lines as Line 1 which operates towards Versova-Andheri and Ghatkopar. It has 12 station and covers distance of 11.4 km. It has station as Versova, D.N. Nagar station, Azad Nagar, Andheri. It adds with Western Express Highway (WEH), Chakala station. It also has connectivity with Airport road, Marol Naka and Saki Naka. Then it further connects to Asalpha, Jagruti Nagar and ends at Ghatkopar.

The depot for Line 1 is at DN Nagar, Four Bungalows.

Ø Dahisar East towards Gundavali connects by line 2A or depict as Red Line. It operates with total 17 stations and with area of 18.6 km.

Ø It provides interconnectivity towards Metro Line 1 which is from Ghatkopar To Versova. It further connects to Meyro Lines 2B (D N Nagar to Mandale). It further connects with Andheri E to Dahisar E. and Swami Samarth Nagar towards Vikhroli.

Ø The maintenance depot is spread on huge area of 16.40 hectares of land. It is in use for stabling, maintenance of trains at Charkop/Malwani. It got inaugurated by CM on 2021, 29th January.

Ø It helps with ease of traffic and removes congestion on business route to New Link Road of Mumbai towards Dahisar (E) to DN Nagar.

Ø It provides connectivity with Central Mumbai, Western Mumbai and Northern Suburban Mumbai.

Ø It has rail base access within geographical and commercial landmarks in Mumbai.

Ø It reduces current travel time anywhere between 50% - 75%, depends on road conditions.

Line 2A depicts as Yellow Line which operates between Dahisar East and Andheri West. The total area under this line is 18.6 km and has 17 stations. It has owner as MMRDA and Operator is MMMOCL. The depot is at Malvani in Charkop.

Red line on route of Line 7 is with Dahisar East with Gunndavali that connects 14 stations and area of 16.5 km. MMRDA is owner on this line and MMMOCL is the operator. This line will further get extend to Mira Bhayander in North in near future as Line 9 and 8 stations. It will also connect towards CSI Airport’s Terminal 2 with Line 7A and has two stations in number.

Mumbai metro is with new phase of development and has majority of area under construction.

Line 2 B on Yellow Line with D N Nagar – Bandra – Mumbai. This is with total area of 23.643 km and covers total number of stations as 22. The owner for this project is MMRDA and operator gets MMMOCL. It gets depot at Mandale.

Line 3 or Aqua line as colour depiction is under construction. Cuffe Parade- BKC – SEEPZ - Aarey Colony gets connectivity by this line. It covers distance of 33.5 Km and has total station as 27. The depot is at Aarey Colony, operator is Delhi Metro Rail Corporation for first 10 years. The owner is as MMRC Ltd, 5-50 JV of GoMH, GOI.

Line 4 is at Green Line at Bhakti Park (Wadala) and towards Ghatkopar – Thane – Kasarvadavali. It covers an area of 32.32 km with total stations as 32. It has depot at Vikhroli and Mogharpada. The line currently gets an extension by 2.88 km towards Gaimukh, Line 4A with total station as 2. It gets approval by 9.2 km towards Mira road that comes with Line 10 and has 4 stations on it. South-Side gets line as futuristic development ad gets extend towards CST station. It comes with Line 11 that has 10 stations towards South Mumbai with future developments towards Apollo Bunder.

Line 5 as Orange Line with connectivity to Thane – Bhiwandi – Kalyan. It covers an area of 23.50 km and has 17 stations in total. It has total development in area of 12.81 km from Thane to Bhiwandi and that is under construction. Although, Bhiwandi- Kalyan route is on hold and the line extends from Kalyan to Taloja which is part of Line -12.

Line 8 or Pink Line connects with Lokhandwala – To JVLR – SEEPZ – Kanjumarg. It has total area of 14.47 km with total station as 13. The depot is at Kanjur Village or Kanjur Marg all along EEH.

Mumbai Metro – upcoming lines

Line 8 also gets Gold Lines on CSM International airport and towards Navi Mumbai International airport. 35 km of distance and 7 stations are under it. It will be as an express line that connects with region which exist within airport and new airport.

Line 11 or Green Line between Bhakti Park and CSMT.  12.744 km is distance cover and route has 10 stations.

Line 12 that is also depict as Orange line connects from Kalyan to Taloja. It covers total area of 20.7 km and has 17 stations.

Line 13 is depict as Purple line between Shivaji Chowk i.e. Mira Road towards Virar. It is in 23 km with 20 stations.

Line 14 as Magenta Line that is one of the favourite colour for many commuters connects with Vikhroli to Kanjumarg and towards Badlapur. It covers an area of 45 km with huge number of station as 40. This makes it one of the biggest development because of huge number of station and will serve huge number of commuters.

Another way of commuting at Mumbai is by Moorail. It gets inaugurated on 2021, February 2nd. India gets Monorail in Mumbai and no other city has it.  Each train is with 4 of carriages and can accommodate 560 passengers. First phase development see 8.8 km of Line 1. It gets operational between Chembur and Wadala. The second phase has development with 11.20 km of Line 2. Wadala towards Sant Gadge Maharaj chowk gets connect by Monoral development.
